From ‘you guys are taking our jobs’ to ‘you’re my hero’
With supermarket shelves across the country completely empty, more people are relying on their corner shops for essentials. What used to be the shop people would only pop to to get a bottle of wine or some crisps and a can of Coke has become incredibly important in ensuring people have food on their table.
We spoke to two shopkeepers about how the outbreak of COVID1-9 has changed the way their customers behave towards them. They reveal how what was once a torrent of abuse and xenophobia has turned into gratitude from the community they have served for years.
