Johnny Depp appears to chuckle after Amber Heard’s lawyer objects to his own question

Even the judge was confused

The Amber Heard versus Johnny Depp trial has gone viral once again, this time because Depp looked to be chuckling after an apparent blunder from Heard’s lawyer.

After Depp, 58, left the stand yesterday, his house manager Ben King testified, recalling an incident involving the actor’s severed finger. However, Heard’s lawyer, Ben Rottenborn, sought to halt his statement by citing “Hearsay objection.”

King looks visibly taken aback for a moment, confused as to why there might be an objection to an answer he was providing to Heard’s own lawyer. Rottenborn, a graduate from Stanford Law School, was seemingly none the wiser until Judge Penney Azcarate corrected with, “but you asked the question.”

In the foreground, Depp looks to be tickled by the wobble, turning his head to stifle a laugh. Depp’s own lawyer, Benjamin Chew, whispers something to him moments later.

Having been grilled on the stand for four days, Depp concluded his cross-examination on April 25. On his final day, the court heard how Depp begged his ex-wife to cut him with a knife.

“I was quite confused I’d been summoned to her at that point since all the news was about the fact I’d allegedly done all these horrible things,” he said, detailing an emotional meeting with his ex partner. “I met with her in the hope she would retract her lies that the world was now fed, had been fed.”

He continued to explain how everything had been taken from him and that he was essentially “broken and really at the end.”

He added: “I had a knife in my pocket. I took the knife out and said ‘here, cut me’.”

The trial itself began on April 11 and is expected to last around six weeks, with Heard, 36, thought to take the stand in the coming weeks. An exact date has not yet been revealed.
