The Oscars co-host sided with her comedian colleague
Actor and comedian Amy Schumer said she was “triggered and traumatised” by Will Smith‘s actions at this year’s Oscars, as the entertainment world and general public continue to react to Chris Rock being slapped live on stage.
Schumer – who co-hosted this year’s ceremony alongside Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall – took to Instagram to share her thoughts after two days of processing the now-viral moment which she labelled as “disturbing” before applauding Rock for how he handled the situation.
As you can see in the full caption, the 40-year-old star said she was “still triggered and traumatised”, adding that while she loves her friend Rock, she could see “so much in pain” in Smith and his actions.

A comic herself, Schumer goes on to describe the moment not only as “disturbing” and one that left her feeling “shock[ed]… stunned and sad”, but “waiting for this sickening feeling to go away”.
The Trainwreck actor was one of three hosts on the night alongside fellow comic talents however despite her backstage access to witness the slap heard around the world, her response comes later than most of her other Hollywood peers.
Schumer is one of several high-profile entertainers and celebrities who have responded following what is now one of the most infamous moments in Oscars and TV history. Fellow comedian Katherine Ryan said, simply: “Can’t take a joke, stay home“.
Another of those to respond was controversial former NFL star turned actor, OJ Simpson; having been the subject of many a comedian’s jokes amid his high profile accusations of violence, he said that he “understood” Smith’s feelings even if they were wrong.
