There’s info on deleted scenes too.
Like a cream horn that’s going up Pump Street, Season One of Derry Girls was a delicious treat that audiences absolutely devoured during the course of its six-episode run.
The excellent season finale was funny, poignant and powerful and with Nadine Coyle set to feature in Season 2, plenty of people have been curious about what the future holds for our favourite Derry girls.
Nicola Coughlan (Clare) and Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin) have already said that they’d love to see Britney Spears, James’ mates, Michelle with diamond teeth, Dara O’Briain and Amy Poehler feature in the new episodes, but Lisa McGee has given an insight into what Season 2 might involve.
Speaking with IFTN, McGee confirmed that those rumours about Nadine Coyle’s appearance are true. That’s right, the most famous Derry girl – after Dana of course – will be featuring in the new season.
“Yeah I’ve been in contact with Nadine, I’m going to meet up with her in the next few weeks’ she’s a big fan of the show as well. I haven’t even written it yet you know, it’s just one of those things. I am just trying to find stories for the main characters at the minute so I am coming up with those and trying to just find the joy of it again. It was really nice writing that first series so I need to just go back and talk to my friends and find those stories,” she said.
With regards to the plot, during the season finale, McGee’s decision to juxtapose the scene of the girls dancing to Orla’s ‘step aerobics’ with the traumatic bombing really resonated with audiences. It appears that the writer will continue to mix the hilarious one-liners with some poignant drama.
“There is loads there, so it just about finding the right ones for series two and what political thing is going to float into it, I might do the ceasefire, I might not, so I am just working through all that at the minute,” she said.
With regards to the deleted scenes from Season One, Nicola Coughlan (Clare) and Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Erin) were speaking with The Metro about some of the scenes that didn’t make the cut.
“All Lisa’s writing is brilliant and we enjoyed filming every single bit of it. There are things that were cut out though and they’re absolute comedy gold. There was a hilarious scene where Louisa’s character, Orla, is absolutely obsessed with Coco-Pops” said Jackson.
Coughlan added: “I did have a line about Taytos that got cut and I was gutted about it. It was when Clare was on her caffeine bonanza and she finally realises that it’s all the caffeine that’s made her sleepy and stuff. ‘I’m not even sure that I saw her (statue of the Virgin Mary) smirk anymore, I had a packet of cheese and onion earlier and I thought Mr. Tayto winked at me. I was devastated when that was cut!”
We’re also told that “Erin also drew some boobs with red sauce and I (Jackson) did some great red sauce artwork that was never used. I was covered in red sauce for four days. Nobody wants to see red sauce tits!”.
Given the success of the first season, we’re certain that plenty of people want to see even more of Derry Girls when the new episodes arrive.
