Is it July 21st yet?
The advent of streaming has revolutionised how audiences watch films and to be honest, it’s for the better. This being said, certain films really need to be seen and experienced in the cinema because they’re not just films, they’re events that stay with you.
Think about moments like the first time we see the brontosaurus in Jurassic Park. What about the opening scene in Star Wars: A New Hope when Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer comes into focus? How about the jaw-dropping action set-pieces in The Matrix?
It might sound pretentious but some films are just ‘made’ to be seen on the big screen and Christopher Nolan is definitely a director that fits this category.
Inception, The Dark Knight, Interstellar, The Prestige. With Dunkirk, Nolan has once again confirmed that “he is one of the great filmmakers of our time.”
Praise doesn’t come get much better than that.
We’ve already heard just how highly regarded Harry Styles is by Insomnia and Memento director, but according to the first batch of reviews, it appears that Dunkirk will rank alongside Nolan’s best films.
High praise indeed.
Clocking in at 1 hour and 47 minutes, Dunkirk is Nolan’s shortest film since his debut feature Following, but it appears that we’re all in for a treat.

In case you’ve been lost at sea for the last year, Dunkirk tells the true story of Operation Dynamo, the rescue operation that saved hundreds of thousands of British soldiers who were trapped on the beaches of Dunkirk during World War II.
The film stars Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Tom Hardy.
Dunkirk opens in cinemas on July 21st.
