Ed Sheeran’s list of backstage demands at Glastonbury is very ordinary

Paul Moore

Not exactly sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll.

Given that Ed Sheeran’s has conquered Glastonbury, his rise from humble street performer to global superstar has been meteoric. In fact, it wasn’t too long ago that he was sleeping on Jamie Foxx’s couch as he desperately tried to break onto the scene, but regardless if you like his music or not, there’s no denying that Sheeran has used his celebrity status for good.

For example, as part of the trip for Red Nose Day, Sheeran spent some time at a school in the region of West Point, Liberia.

There are also countless times when he has surprised his fans with impromptu visits and performances.

See, he’s just a normal guy that still manages to make time for his childhood friends. With this in mind, Ed Sheeran’s Glastonbury rider reflects his normal and down to earth status because he only asked for the following: a bottle of Robinsons Squash, a six-pack of Coca-Cola, a six-pack of Diet Coke, a six-pack of Fanta Orange, a six-pack of Sprite and a jar of Manuka Honey.

All together, this list of items comes in at a whopping £57.31.

We know what you’re thinking. Where’s the madness and excess that comes from the status of being a Glastonbury headliner?

For example, Kanye West once asked for an alcohol-filled slushie machine.  Only recently, Justin Bieber insisted on having a Jacuzzi, Playstation, purple carnations, an IO HAWK, sofa set, washing machine, refrigerator, upholstery, wardrobe cupboard and a massage table at his gig in India.

Ok, maybe another Glastonbury 2017 headliner, Foo Fighters, can top Ed Sheeran’s incredibly normal rider.

Well, here’s what Dave Grohl and co asked for, as revealed by NME.

  • 1 x Fiji water
  • 1 x Schwepps soda water
  • 1 x Coconut water
  • 1 x Pom Juice
  • 1 x 12 pack of Diet Coke
  • 1 x Fresh orange juice
  • 1 x Ocean Spray cranberry juice
  • 1 Case of Vitamin Water
  • 1 Case of Red Bull
  • 1 Case of Gatorade
  • 1 Pack of Starbucks coffee beans
  • 1 x Fat free organic milk
  • 1 x Edensoy milk
  • 1 Pack of avocados
  • 1 Pack of tomatoes
  • 1 Dark chocolate bar
  • 1 Pack of bananas
  • 1 Pack of apples
  • 1 Pack of pears
  • 1 Pack of kiwi fruit
  • 1 Pack of seedless grapes
  • 1 Jar of peanut butter

Is it just us, or does anyone else pine for the mad days of music when people would ask for things like a giraffe and 1000 brown M&Ms?

This story from Wayne’s World 2 instantly comes to mind.
