“That was weird, I’m sorry.”
We’ve all been there. You horribly misread the situation, go in for a kiss, and then tragically, end up slobbering over someone’s shoulder, or worse, thin air.
Thankfully it tends to happen in the privacy of our own awkward world, and not in front of hundreds of millions of people around the globe. Unless you’re Emma Stone that is.
The popular actress won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her performance in La La Land on Sunday night, and gave a fine speech.
“This is a film for dreamers,” she said. “I think that hope and creativity are two of the most important things in the world.”
Very noble sentiments indeed. But they was undone somewhat by the mortifyingly awkward moment when director Damien Chazelle was announced as the winner of Best Director.
The film maker’s first move was to naturally kiss his partner Jasmine McGlade, but Stone didn’t realise and went in for a ‘well done’ peck of her own – unbeknownst to Chazelle.
What transpired was cringeworthy in the extreme, and everyone watching died a little inside on the actress’ behalf. Credit to Stone she took it remarkably well and acknowledged: ‘That was weird…’
It was indeed, Emma. It was indeed.
