Mel Gibson is 64. Danny Glover is 74. They’re probably too old for this shit.
A fifth Lethal Weapon film is on the way, director Richard Donner has confirmed.
Donner directed all four previous instalments and told The Daily Telegraph that he was set to helm the fifth and final entry.
“This is the final one,” he told The Telegraph.
“Itâs both my privilege and duty to put it to bed. Itâs exciting, actuallyâĤ Hahaha! Itâs the last one, Iâll promise you that.”
Back in January 2020, producer Dan Lin confirmed that he was trying to make a fifth film happen, and that the original cast would be appearing.
“Weâre trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “And [Richard] Donnerâs coming back. The original cast is coming back. And itâs just amazing. The story is very personal to him.”
“And it’s just amazing. The story itself is very personal to [Donner] and to the cast, and so I really want to make that one.”
“Mel [Gibson] and Danny [Glover] are ready to go, so it’s about the script. I wasn’t part of the other four. … As a fan, I want to help to make it happen.”
Just to give you some context. Mel Gibson is 64. Danny Glover is 74. Richard Donner is 90.
The first Lethal Weapon movie was released all the way back in 1987. The last time we saw Riggs and Murtaugh was over 20 years ago, in 1998’s Lethal Weapon. That’s the one where Danny Glover and Mel Gibson somehow beat up Jet Li.
A TV version – without Gibson or Glover – ran for three seasons between 2017 and 2019.
