Fire and blood
Much like Joffrey whenever he sees a new person to torture, Game of Thrones fans aren’t the most patient bunch when it comes to new episodes of the beloved show. Well, fans of the books might be able to teach them a few lessons because it has been seven years since A Dance with Dragons was released and we’re still no closer to the release of The Winds of Winter.
Ah well, at least we have Season 8 of the superb TV show to look forward to and after that wraps, we’re going to get some new shows that are set in the Seven Kingdoms.
At present, HBO is developing five different shows and while the broadcaster hasn’t committed to one particular plot, it’s clear that audiences are going to be staying in Westeros for quite some time.
Here are the list of writers working on the new shows:
- Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island)
- Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service)
- Brian Helgeland (Man On Fire, L.A. Confidential)
- Carly Wray (The Leftovers, Mad Men)
- Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones)
Despite the fact that we still have to wait for The Winds of Winter, George R.R Martin has softened the blow by announcing that he’s set to release a new book about the Targaryen legacy called Fire & Blood, the first half of what he describes as a “monumental history of the Targaryen kings of Westeros”, which will be published by Bantam Spectra and HarperCollins Voyage and will be released on 20 November.
Naturally, Game of Thrones fans are curious if this new novel will be the source material for one of the upcoming spin-off shows.
Here’s what Martin had to say on the issue: “Oh, and I should also say… as most of you know, HBO is presently developing a number of different prequels to Game of Thrones. I know I am going to be asked whether those shows are going to be based on material from Fire & Blood. It’s a logical question. The only answer I can give is… ah, well, no one is sure yet, and anyway, I am not allowed to say. So let’s move that to the side.”
Mmm, as stated previously, we’re massive fans of any show that covers the history of House Targaryen because there’s so much fertile ground for any new TV show. For example, The Doom of Valyria, the entire history of Aegon the Conqueror, and the Blackfyre Rebellions would make epic TV shows.
Whatever direction HBO goes in, we really hope that there’s going to be dragons. Dracarys!
