The wait is nearly over
Given the fact that no other TV show sends audiences down YouTube rabbit holes quite like Game of Thrones, it’s common practice for every single detail and tidbit of news to be scrutinised worse than Tyrion was when he faced trial for the murder of Joffrey.
To begin with, let’s get the bad news out of the way. The full trailer for Game of Thrones Season 8 has not been released just yet – anyone else stay up and watch True Detective on Sunday in that hope that it would? – but we do have the next best thing, photos.
Well, the next best thing would be an actual episode of the show to leak but that’s not going to happen… again, we think.
Anyway, while it’s hard to read into too much detail from the following images, there are some very cool Easter eggs to be found in the latest snaps.
For example..
The Lady of Winterfell
Sansa’s costume looks eerily similar to the exact same one that The Blackfish wore. Catelyn Stark would be proud.
Then again, her dress could also resemble dragon scales. Something to welcome Daenerys?
For reference, here’s what Brynden Tully (The Blackfish) wore.
“You have my blood”
Jon’s pose on the Iron Throne is very similar to Ned’s.
We’re saying nothing.
The Great War is here
Nothing much to say here, just that it’s cool as f**k.
Cleganebowl
In the new images, released via EW, it’s interesting that The Hound got a promo snap. The Mountain didn’t.
Could this be an indicator of the most eagerly-anticipated fight in Westeros?
Fire and Blood
Daenerys’ costumes have evolved over the years as the designers have slowly started to integrate crimson and red into her clothes.
Basically, she’s embracing her Targaryen lineage.
Jaime Lannister has also moved away from the gold cloak he wore as a member of the King’s Guard.
Is this a small indication that he’s now fully fledged to the Jon-Dany alliance?
New clothes
Bran Stark – as we know him – is dead. Perhaps these will be the clothes that the Three-Eyed Raven is going to rock for quite some time?
Nice bowl haircut, too.
If you’re curious to see some of the other snaps, you can do so here.
Elsewhere…
The following characters were all snapped sitting on the Iron Throne.
If you think the creators are trying a little bit of misdirection, we reckon that the only surviving ‘big’ characters that didn’t get a photo on the throne are: Gendry, Yara Greyjoy, Lyanna Mormont, Bronn, Tormund, and The Mountain.
Mmm…
14 April can’t come soon enough.
