Big changes for the next season
In Game of Thrones, kings and queens are killed off with such regularity that it’s almost a curse to be born into nobility. Well, Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully in Game of Thrones) will get a taste of this because he has escaped the dungeons of Riverrrun because he’s set to replace Matt Smith as the middle-aged Prince Philip in The Crown.
Netflix’s drama will move ahead to the mid-1960s for its next set of episodes. We already knew that Claire Foy has relinquished her crown as Queen Elizabeth II, as have co-stars Matt Smith (Prince Philip) and Vanessa Kirby (Princess Margaret).
Joining Menzies for the new episodes will be Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter. The producers had a bit of trouble casting Prince Philip though because their original choice for the role, Paul Bettany, dropped out a few weeks ago.
Aside from starring in Game of Thrones, Menzies has also featured in Outlander, The Terror, Silent Witness, Catastrophe and The Night Manager in the last few years as well.
