HBO boss confirms every episode in Game of Thrones season 8 is like ‘watching a movie’

“Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat”

It’s somewhat telling that on a night when Hollywood acknowledged the best of the best in the world of film and TV, a few seconds of new footage from Game of Thrones season 8 was arguably the thing that got people most excited on Monday morning.

At present, we’re eagerly awaiting the full trailer for season eight to be released and we’re very hopeful that it will drop in the next few days – especially with HBO’S other landmark show, True Detective, set to air its third season.

While we’ll always do our very best to provide spoiler alerts and warnings, one fact about the upcoming episodes has Game of Thrones fans salivating and that’s the epic battle sequences that are in store.

Hell, you didn’t think that they call it The Great War for nothing? Aside from this, there’s also the small matter of the Iron Throne to contend with – that is if there’s actually going to be a Throne to sit on, or kingdoms to rule.

We’ve already stated that the upcoming episodes are set to break film and TV history by staging the biggest battles of all time, but what about the runtime for each episode?

At present, an official runtime hasn’t been confirmed but get set for feature-length episodes – probably in the duration of 90 minutes and above.

Speaking with Variety at the Golden Globes awards, HBO chief Richard Plepler spoke about the scale and scope of season 8.

“It’s a spectacle. The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had while watching them was, ‘I’m watching a movie’,” he said.

Plepler added that the Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have also managed to up the ante in the final six episodes.

“They knew the bar was high. They’ve exceeded the bar. I’ve watched them twice without any CGI and I’m in awe. Everybody’s in for an extraordinary treat of storytelling and of magical, magical production.”

Is it April yet? Actually, in the meantime, we’ll just settle for the full trailer.

Bring on the fire and blood.
