A sequel is definitely happening. Yes!
R. Kelly might believe that he can fly but did even the most optimistic Space Jam fan really think that a sequel to the cult-classic would happen?
Hell, it has been 22 years since a motley crew of Michael Jordan, Bill Murray, Bugs Bunny, Foghorn Leghorn, Lola Bunny, Porky Pig, Wil E Coyotee and the rest of the gang did the impossible.
The Tune Squad never lost faith, but even the biggest Space Jam fan might have their doubts about a sequel to the beloved film.
Truth be told, the Monstars really did bottle that game. I mean, look at all the talent they swiped! Absolute chokers.
Anyways, it appears that we’re set for another adventure with the Tune Squad because Basketball Society Online are reporting that LeBron James (star of the new film and pretty decent basketball player) will be using a new platform to release information about the film.
They’ve reported that James’ current contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers has been one of the main issues that has stalled work on the film.
After obtaining contractual freedom, James’ next contract is expected to see him looking after his own image rights and one the things he’s expected to do is sign a commercial deal with Instagram TV Uninterrupted platform – that’s being eyed as a YouTube rival.
Basically, James is going to have a say in the promotional work that revolves around Space Jam 2 and he’s tying this into his own career as a basketball player. Clever guy.
He’ll be using Instagram to reveal his new club in conjunction with any of the following about Space Jam 2; premiere date/teaser footage etc.
Basically, we’re going to find out which club The King is joining and information about Space Jam 2 at the same time.
Granted, Warner Bros. announced in May 2016 that a sequel is officially in the works but this is the first news that we’ve heard about it since.
We reckon that LeBron’s announcement is probably going to be a teaser that’s created specifically for Instagram, with James and Bugs revealing a release date, or other relevant information.
Either way, the hype is building.
