A sequel is rumoured and a TV show is being developed.
Tough, violent and incredibly gory, Dredd was the perfect example of a bonafide cult-classic. After Sylvester Stallone’s forgettable version – why did you take off the helmet Sly? – fans of the beloved comic-book finally got the version they wanted in 2012.
We’re massive fans of Pete Travis’ film – actually, scratch that because Alex Garland appears to have directed it as revealed by Karl Urban’s latest comments – but despite the fact that the film was critically adored, it flopped at the box-office.
Dredd was poorly marketed and it also some incredibly unfortunate timing because it shared similarities with Gareth Evans’ superb actioner, The Raid.

In an interview with JoBlo, Urban has given fans of the film renewed hope for a sequel because he said that he’s more than happy to reprise the role of Judge Dredd. “I would dearly love to have the opportunity to get in there and play that again. There are so many wonderful stories in the 2000 A.D./Judge Dredd canon that we’d be remiss not to have the opportunity to tell them. If it were up to me personally we would have been making Dredd 2 two years ago,” he said.
The Lord of the Rings and Thor: Ragnarok star also addressed the status of the planned television series, Mega-City One, announced in May 2017. “The rights holders are in their process of developing their show called Mega-City One and we’ve had many discussions and the ball’s in their court. Hopefully, they get it together and are able to deliver more of what the audience wants and it would certainly be a privilege and a pleasure to be a part of it,” he said.
With Garland’s latest film, Annihilation, receiving massive praise ahead of its release on Netflix, we just have one wish to make.
If no studio fancies financing a new Dredd film for a cinematic release, can Netflix please intervene so we can see Karl Urban back playing the most badass judicial officer Mega-City One?
How cool would that be?
