She admits she has a few of her “own gripes” with the final season
Now that the dust has settled, it seems like the consensus has generally agreed that the final season of Game of Thrones was amongst the show’s weaker moments.
There have been plenty of noisy GoT nerds on the internet, but there have also been the odd rumbling from the cast themselves that they were slightly disappointed by the fates of their characters.
One of the most mocked moments was the death of Cersei, who was crushed by some falling rumble in the penultimate episode. For many, it felt like an unceremonious end for one of the show’s most prominent characters.
And it turns out Lena Headey, who played Cersei, wasn’t totally happy with it herself.
In a big interview with The Guardian this weekend, Hedley was asked about Cersei’s death.
Her tactful response: “I will say I wanted a better death.”
“Obviously you dream of your death,” she elaborated. “You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted. But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone. No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.”
Most entertainingly, she also implies she plans to let showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss know how she feels at some point.
“I invested as a viewer and I have my favourite characters. And I’ve got a few of my own gripes. But I haven’t sat down drunkly with David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] yet.”
Lena Headey also goes on to say that she is still in contact with her co-stars, and they all have a big group chat togther.
“We’re all on a giant WhatsApp group which is a daily pile-on. It’s hilarious. You can tell who’s been drinking on that one.”
