Matt Lucas has shown in the past that he speaks as well off-screen as he does on it.
The former ‘Shooting Stars’ and ‘Little Britain’ star has this week responded to the Daily Mail after the newspaper made a basic error in a story about…well, it’s not entirely clear what it is about.
Seven years ago, Lucas’ ex-husband Kevin McGee took his own life. And now the actor and comedian has had to suffer the indignity of the paper speculating that this could be a reason for him having a lower profile than former writing partner David Walliams.
The short snippet mentioned how Lucas has gone off the radar compared to Walliams, with whom he worked closely on both ‘Little Britain’ and ‘Come Fly With Me’, citing the death of McGee in 2009 as a reason for the 42-year-old leaving the public eye.
Except the print version didn’t call him Kevin McGee, it called him ‘Trevor McGee’. And, rather than kick off at the paper, Lucas just quietly pointed out their error.

Lucas has received messages of support over the ‘insensitive’ comments, with others pointing out that the one-paragraph story mistakenly refers to McGee as his ‘ex-partner’ rather than ‘ex-husband’.

.@RealMattLucas @MailOnline not only is this completely inaccurate but also disgustingly insensitive xx

The malice and stupidity of that leaves me speechless.

very 'astute' of David not to have a loved one die

Oh, and that ‘off the radar’ claim? We’re not entirely sure about that either, what with Lucas appearing in Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Les Misérables, Bridesmaids and ‘Doctor Who’ since 2009, among other things. That puts him as much in the public eye as Walliams, at least as far as film and TV are concerned.
