He has been working since he was a wee nipper, but now Macaulay Culkin says he has “essentially retired” at the grand old age of 35.
The famously private Culkin, who is reportedly worth around $15m (£10.6m), told Vulture that he tends to just “go where the wind takes me”, spending the bulk of his days painting, writing in his notebooks, and “whatevering”.
Culkin gained international fame from his role as Kevin McCallister in the Home Alone series. Add to that filmography Uncle Buck,  My Girl, and Richie Rich, and he fast became one of the most successful child actors of his generation.
The diary hasn’t been so packed lately though; indeed over the last few years, Culkin has been subjected to a lot of rumour and speculation about his health and well-being.

The Home Alone association still follows Culkin wherever he goes, and last December, he made a rare attempt to embrace his child actor legacy by appearing in a mate’s viral video imagining what Kevin McAllister would be like as a dysfunctional adult.
These days, Culkin spends a lot of time in Paris, preferring the lack of public attention in Europe.
“I’ll take walks at two or four in the morning, because there’s nobody out on the streets and it’s easy for me to go unnoticed,” he told Vulture.
That’s not to say Culkin is completely done with the entertainment industry. He tours occasionally with his band, the Pizza Underground, and will star in good pal Adam Green’s upcoming psychedelic retelling of Aladdin.
But apart from that, it’s mostly “whatevering” – surely the ideal occupation? And if you’d made your millions at a young age, wouldn’t you be doing the exact same thing today?
Good on you, Mac.
