It seems like only yesterday that the Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas episode aired and introduced the world to the so-called ‘New Rory.’
Viewers clutched their baileys, hung on the edges of their seats and waited with bated breath while the cast unveiled the new son of Agnes.
Damien McKiernan was revealed as the new Rory after the original Rory, Rory Cowan, left the show last year.
It was a big moment for television – one that is likely to remain etched in the public’s collective psyche for many years to come.
Last night, however, fans of the show were left disappointed, shocked, and dismayed after new Rory forgot his lines.
The New Year’s Day special saw McKiernan walk into the kitchen at the beginning of the episode declaring that he needs to speak to Rory.
But, as we all know, he is Rory himself and the person who he really needed to see was Mark, who was sitting at the table.
Tragic.
The cast all started laughing, McKiernan looked mort, and Brendan O’Carroll decidedly took the blame for the mistake, saying: “We’ve had all week to learn this, but that was my fault.”
McKiernan then composed himself, repeated his line correctly, and everything was okay.
The show continued on as normal, nobody died, and the legacy of Rory lived on.
However, it kind of didn’t because viewers were completely unimpressed by the mistake and they took to Twitter to tell new Rory exactly what he could do with his mix-up.
Watching this ‘New Rory’ is like watching people put the milk in first when making a cup of tea – Terrible. Should’ve just written Rory out the show completely. #MrsBrownsBoys

Harsh.
Rory Cowan exited the show last year due to the fact that he was “unhappy.”
He told the Mirror that he hadn’t fallen out with O’Carroll and that he had just wanted to leave.
