This is Garfield and Maguire all over again – we’re not buying it, mate
Patrick Stewart has responded to mass speculation that he is reprising his role as Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, the 81-year-old played down rumours that the silhouette and highly recognisable voice in the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was his, suggesting that “people have been imitating [his] voice” for decades.

While we respect the need to play dumb for the sake of spoilers in the ever-precious MCU, this is the exact same scenario fans encountered in the run-up to the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home.
*Spoilers ahead* if you still somehow haven’t seen it yet.
Prior to the launch of the film, which reached over $1bn at the box office, both former Spideys Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield had to deny their involvement.
However, the barefaced lies just didn’t land and not long after the release, the two much-loved Spider-Men revealed that they had even snuck into the premiere in disguise.
As for Stewart, although we don’t have any official confirmation beyond the very obvious clip from the trailer, we’d say it’s fairly safe to assume it is indeed his voice we heard in the TV spot – especially given the multiverse element meaning almost anything is possible in the MCU these days.
