Pattinson is close to being confirmed as the new Batman
Robert Pattinson is reportedly in negotiations to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ forthcoming film.
The Batman is due for release in June 2021 and Variety has claimed Pattinson is the top choice for the film’s leading role.
Though it is not yet a done deal, the report adds that the Twilight star could be confirmed for the role soon.
Assuming Variety’s information is correct, the 33-year-old would become the second-youngest actor to ever play the superhero on the big screen after Christian Bale, who was 31 when Batman Begins premiered in 2005.
Warner Bros. have made no comment on the report, though Pattinson is currently preparing to shoot another film for them under director Christopher Nolan. That is expected to hit screens next summer.
Though there has been no official start date set for The Batman, Variety’s report suggests filming could begin as soon as the end of this year or in early 2020.
Reeves, who worked on the last two Planet of the Apes sequels, took over Batman directing duties from Ben Affleck at the start of 2017. Though Pattinson is believed to be close to being cast, it’s believed Reeves is still fine-tuning the final version of the film’s script.
