Just days after becoming the highest-grossing film in North American box office history, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has reached another milestone.
The latest installment in the franchise has become the first to gross more than $800m in the United States and Canada, and there’s still time to improve on the total.
Its current total of $812m can be expected to reach double the lifetime total of the first Star Wars film, which grossed more than $212m initially, rising to more than $460m.
Can it top the billion dollar mark in North America? We wouldn’t rule it out.
