The next Spider-Man film has an official title and it makes perfect sense

Paul Moore

Jake Gyllenhaal will be the main villain. This could be great.

After Sam Raimi’s original take on the character and Andrew Garfield’s stint as the web slinger, Spider-Man fans might have felt that a little bit of Spidey-fatigue was setting in after hearing the news that the character was going to be rebooted again with Tom Holland playing the beloved character.

Well, their fears were unfounded because for our money, Holland is the best Spider-Man of all time. Yep, we’re still not over that ’emo Spidey’ from Spider-Man 3.

Whip smart, geeky, tough, funny, likeable and nervously cool, Holland made an instant impression in Captain America: Civil War – how good was that fight at Leipzig Airport? – and his arc has been superb to watch throughout Avengers: Infinity War and most notably, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

By shifting the focus away from the cliched death of Uncle Ben to a new ‘surrogate father’ relationship with Tony Stark, the writers have infused a new sesne of fun into the Spidey franchise and as for Holland’s performance, well, was anyone else in bits during *that* scene at the end of Infinity War?

Prior to Thanos’ fatal click of his fingers, we already knew that Spider-Man would be returning for his own standalone film and he’s about to swing into action in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Tom Holland was appearing at ACE Comic-Con in Seattle, Washington this weekend, and in an Instagram video he gave us a little sneak peak at the latest reveal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sorry for no announcements, but I love you guys ♥️

Of course, this title makes perfect sense because back in April, shortly before Avengers: Infinity War was released, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel, said that the new film was going to be set in London.

“We start filming early July. We film in London. We shot first film in Atlanta. And we shoot a lot of films in London but there’s another reason we’re shooting in London which is, yes, Spidey, of course, will spend some time in New York, but he’ll spend some time in other parts of the globe,” he said.

As for the cast, Tom Holland and Marissa Tomei will return as Peter Parker and Aunt May.

We expect Zendaya (MJ) and Jacob Batalon (best friend Ned Leeds) to return also. What’s most exciting for fans though is the fact that Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing the villainous Mysterio.

Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters July 5, 2019. Our spidey sense is already kicking in.
