He’s also posted pictures in costume as violent gangster Al Capone and it’s pretty creepy.
Earlier this year it was announced that Tom Hardy would be playing Al Capone in Fonzo, a new film focused on the final years of the Chicago mobster’s life.
The Dunkirk and Warrior actor is now filming the role, with his makeup being used to make him appear significantly older than his 40 years.
The film will focus on a very specific period of Capone’s life, as “dementia rots [Capone’s] mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life”.
Here’s the film’s full synopsis: “Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.”
Whilst Capone has been painted as a charitable and popular figure, he was also notoriously violent and ruthless. He died of a heart attack – caused by a stroke – in his Florida mansion in 1947.
In order to transform into the role, Hardy has been required to shave his hair, with the film’s make-up department then making sure he looks the spitting image of Capone.
He’s recently posted pictures of himself in and out of costume, and with a bald hair and glasses, he bears a striking resemblance to comedian Harry Hill. Albeit, slightly more angry looking.
