It turns out that Jurassic World fans searching for early clues to the plot of the blockbuster were looking in all the wrong places.
Rather than looking for hints in interviews with cast and crew members, perhaps they should have cast their mind back to the late 90s, and an advert for a dinosaur toy.
Jurassic Park sequel The Lost World hit cinemas in 1997, and the following year saw the release of ‘Chaos Effect’ action figures, which brought together components of different dinosaurs together with unforeseen consequences.
“We thought we could combine different dinosaurs’ DNA…but it all went horribly wrong,” says the scientist in the advert. Sound familiar?
Jurassic World, which features a hybrid dinosaur known as the Indominus Rex, recorded the most successful opening Friday in cinema history, ultimately going on to gross more than $500m in its opening weekend.
It was so successful that even Marvel Studios chipped in to congratulate the team behind the record-breaking film.
