Burger King urge customers to go to McDonalds in order to help the restaurant industry

Wil Jones

These are truly extraordinary times

Someone check if hell has frozen over, because Burger King are telling you to go to McDonald’s.

Yes, really. The Burger King UK Twitter account is encouraging customers to get a Big Mac from their arch-rival in order to help save jobs in the restaurant industry.

And they are not just suggesting you go to McD’s. They are also encouraging you to go to KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, or even just your favourite local restaurant or takeaway – anywhere where restaurant worker’s jobs are at risk.

England is set to go into a second lockdown on Thursday, where restaurants, cafes and pubs will only be allowed to serve takeaways or deliveries.

“We never thought we’d be asking you to [order from McDonalds’s],” starts the message. “Just like we never thought we’d be encouraging you to order from KFC, Subway, Domino’s Pizza, Pizza Hut, Five Guys, Greggs, Taco Bell, Papa John’s, Leon… or any other independent food outlets, too numerous to mention here. In short, from any of our sister food chains (fast or not so fast).”

“We never thought we’d be asking you to do this, but restaurants employing thousands of staff really need your support at the moment.”

“So, if you want to help, keep treating yourself to tasty meals through home delivery, takeaway, or drive thru.”

They do sign off however by underlining that they do still have the superior burgers.

“Getting a Whopper is always best, but ordering a Big Mac is not such a bad thing either.”

According to the new coronavirus restrictions, which come into force in England on November 5th, “hospitality venues like restaurants, bars and pubs must close, but can still provide takeaway and delivery services. However, takeaway of alcohol will not be allowed.”
