Because it’s “the most overused, annoying word in the English language.”
Every single person in the world has a crutch word that they constantly rely on in everyday conversations. What do we mean by this? Well, do you have a tendency to constantly use the same word over and over when you’re having a chat?
Well, the word ‘literally’ has irked the owners of The Continental – a bar in the East Village, New York – because they’re literally banning it from being said in their establishment.
Granted, given the recent trend of banning items and activities in certain bars, we’re not exactly surprised to see a bar take such a draconian measure but we do have questions.
For example, how do you enforce it on a day-to-day basis? Will the owners literally eavesdrop in on every conversation?
Also, what about people that are using the word correctly? Are they literally going to be banned for literally using the word literally in the correct context?
Anyway, the following sign is in their window and the owners are taking this measure in an effort to “Stop Kardashianism now.”
It reads: “Sorry but if you say the word ‘literally’ inside Continental you have five minutes to finish your drink and then you must leave. If you actually start a sentence with ‘I literally’ you must leave immediately. This is the most overused, annoying word in the English language and we will not tolerate it. Stop Kardashianism now.”
