But one man was so cock-sure of his accumulator coming in, that he didn’t even wait for the final match before splashing out.
Poker-faced George Wood was sitting on a £112,000 10-game accumulator bet – all he needed was Manchester City to beat Bournemouth on Sunday and both teams to score.
Nine of the 10 results had already come in on the wager with Ladbrokes – the last of which was way back on October 4 when PSG beat Marseille.
But the 22-year-old and his iron clad nuts marched down to the local car dealership *before* the game was even on to buy himself a new motor.
Now we know even the most concrete of bets can be built on sand – particularly where the top teams are concerned, but City coasted home with a 5-1 win and the gamble came good for George.
“I just knew I was going to win,” he told the Mirror. “I had that gut feeling, so I went ahead and ordered the new car regardless because I knew it was going to happen.
“I didn’t get to sleep until 4am, it’s crazy but I’m over the moon.”
