Check your banking app, you never know

High-street banking giants TSB have had a bit of nightmare after their customers were left unable to access their money after the company attempted to upgrade their online banking system over the weekend.

It meant that some of the bank’s users could see details of other people’s accounts and that many of the balances were incorrect. Laim McKenzie, from Paisley, Scotland, suddenly found himself with £13,000 resting in his account when he managed to log in to check on Sunday, despite actually being in his overdraft.

He checked the app on 6pm on Sunday evening and was shocked by his suddenly substantial balance in the black.

The 20-year-old told the BBC: “I saw the details of one other account holder, as well as my own. My balance, because of my overdraft, is in minus, but my balance was showing at £13,000. I closed the app and went in again at 19:00 and only my account was showing – but my balance was showing at zero.

“I’ve closed the app again and have not been able to access it since”, he added.

Other angry customers took to Twitter to express their frustration at not being able to withdraw their money with many even demanding compensation.

Somehow, amongst all the chaos and rage TSB did manage to keep at least one customer:

Because he understands the “complexity of a system upgrade”. Absolute gold.
