He’s been driving since the age of 12
An elderly man that was pulled over in Nottingham revealed to police that’s he’s been driving without a license for over 7o years – and since the age of 12, no less.
The unnamed 84-year-old was stopped by Bulwell, Rise Park and Highbury Vale Police in Nottingham on January 26 and claimed that this was the first time he’d even been stopped before.
The illegal motorist was finally caught after automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) cameras flagged up his Mini One as it pulled up at a Tesco Extra in the local area. Thinking little of it at first, the coppers wrote, “We can’t quite believe what happened next” on their Facebook page:
Not only did the elderly man confess to having driven illegally for more than 70 years but, quite staggeringly, that he had been on the roads since the age of 12.
Fortunately, as well having never been pulled over before, the man – born all the way back in 1938 – insisted “he had never had an accident [or] caused anyone an injury” either.
Bulwell authorities warned locals: “Due to the increased number of ANPR cameras in Nottingham, even on the small trips you are likely to hit a camera, so make sure your documents are in order… because it will catch up with you one day.” Even if it’s 70 years down the road, apparently.
While it is unclear what action was taken against the elderly individual, it’s safe to say that not only will he no longer be driving without a license any longer but likely won’t be driving full-stop after such a long stint behind the wheel illegally.
