One joke was ‘banned’ from the speeches at the royal wedding afters

Here's what went down at the evening reception.

The world got to watch the wedding of the year on Saturday – but only the ceremony.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot at St George’s Chapel in Windsor with an audience of millions looking on around the world but the couple and their guests got to unwind away from the cameras for the evening reception at Frogmore House last night.

The only hint we got about the exclusive bash was when Meghan and Harry made their way to the reception in a slightly more relaxed look than they’d been sporting earlier.

Prince Charles hosted just 200 people at the event, meaning there was no room for some guests who had attended the ceremony earlier in the day, including Pippa Middleton and Duchess Sarah Ferguson.

Here’s everything we know so far about what went down inside Frogmore House.

  1. The royals erected a glass marquee for the grounds of the house. The structure reportedly cost around £300,000.
  2. Meghan and Harry had actually wanted to get married at Frogmore House. They shot their engagement photos there and loved the house but were told it’d be impractical for the ceremony.
  3. James Corden was MC for the night. He and his wife Jools had been guests at the ceremony earlier in the day.
  4. Guests enjoyed a sit-down meal around 7.30pm and were treated to nibbles including candy floss and burgers from carnival style food trucks later on.
  5. Themed cocktails were also served up all night long, including a rum and ginger one called one named ‘When Harry Met Meghan’.
  6. Prince Charles gave a father of the groom speech that reportedly had everyone in stitches. Jokes about Harry’s former playboy reputation had been banned – at least until the older royals had left for the night.
  7. Harry gave an emotional speech and referred to Meghan as his wife for the first time, causing the room to break out into applause. “He promised that all the Americans wouldn’t steal the swords and said, ‘Please, when you leave, be quiet as you don’t want to wake the neighbours,’ which was quite fun,” a guest told PEOPLE.
  8. In a break from tradition, it’s believed that Meghan also gave a speech in which she thanked the royals for welcoming her to the family.
  9. Elton John entertained the guests, playing some of his best-loved hits like Your Song, Circle of Life and I’m Still Standing. DJ Sam Totolee took over the music later on and was instructed by Prince Harry not to play any cheese.
  10. There was even an after-afterparty at the Chiltern Firehouse, a popular celeb hotspot in London.
