Grand Theft Auto creators bring super-fast F1 cycle race to London’s streets

Ben Kenyon

We all know Rockstar Games as the creators of the legendary Grand Theft Auto .

So when we heard they were running a super-speed street cycle race around London, we had to check it out.

The Red Hook Criterium Championship Series is like nothing we’ve ever seen before  – for starters the bikes have no brakes.

The adrenaline-fuelled race on July 11 will see riders tearing around the Greenwich Penninsula street course on fixed-gear bikes you’d normally see flying around the Velodrome.

Rockstar Games say the race is open to everyone from seasoned cyclists to hardcore commuters and weekend warriors – all you need are street-tuned handling skills (and ridiculously high fitness levels).

If, like us, you saw the Tour de France whizz by for all of 15 seconds last summer, you’ll probably see a lot more action in the Red Hook Crit. Male riders do 24 laps of the 1.25km course while female competitors do 18 laps.

Check out the video from Brooklyn…
