Giant Great White Shark spot in waters near Majorca

Later this summer, the greatest movie of all time is set to hit cinemas, as Jason Statham fights a giant shark in The Meg

In completely unrelated news, a massive Great White shark has been spotted off the coast of Majorca.

Majorca is of course a very popular holiday destination for UK tourists.

The shark was photographed on Thursday morning, by biologist Ricardo Sagarminaga Van Buiten eight miles from Cabrera Island, near the Cabrera Archipelago Maritime-Terrestrial National Park. Van Buiten observed the shark for over an hour.

The incredible creature measured five metres (16 ft) in length.

Van Buiten is the lead of the Alnitak conservation project, and posted the image of the shark to their Facebook page.

The post states that despite rumoured sightings, this is the first Great White to be spotted in Spanish waters for over 30 years.

Great whites can live up to 70 years, and adult females can grow up to six metres in length. They have no natural predators, apart from occasionally the killer whale.
