Today, the first Sunday in January, is known in the online-dating world as ‘Dating Sunday.’
The first Sunday in January is officially the busiest day of the year on dating apps according to Plenty of Fish, Tinder, Match.com and Bumble.
Dating Sunday apparently kickstarts dating season and is the beginning of the most active months for romancing.
Experts in the online dating world say that it’s down to January being the traditional time for setting goals and making changes to your life. That would deem it fitting that today (when people finally have some free time after a busy first week back in work) is the perfect opportunity to set up a profile and make some connections.
It may also be worth noting that now Christmas is officially over, the next holiday we have coming up is Valentine’s Day.
“The end of the year is really a good time of reflection,” said Jess Carbino, dating app Tinder’s in-house sociologist.
“People have the opportunity to really think about what they’ve done in the past year and what they want to do in the future. And for many single people, finding a partner is something that they really want to establish as a goal for the new year.”
Match.com is predicting a 42% increase in signups by new singles coming to the platform on Sunday to find a partner. As records showed last year that a huge 2.75 million messages were sent via the dating website on Dating Sunday.
On Tinder, it’s understood that more than 44 million matches were made on “Dating Sunday” last year, in comparison to typical day on Tinder which boasts around 26 million matches.
