JOE tries Burger King’s brand new Halloween Whopper

Tom Victor

We’ve been twiddling our thumbs as other countries have got their mitts on Burger King’s black burger buns, but the wait is now over.

The Halloween Whopper landed in the UK today and will be on menus at the fast food chain until Halloween itself, along with a couple of other new additions.

There are some slight regional variations from the US Halloween menu, and there’s no sign of a Japanese-style Kuro Shogun, but we can’t say we’re too unhappy.

JOE was invited to sample the new menu in a very seasonal setting – here’s how it went down.

The setting for the banquet-style tasting was part fairground ghost train and part teen horror movie, complete with pumpkins and cobwebs, you know, just to set the tone…

First up was the main event, the Halloween Whopper.

The trademark black bun gets its colour from being infused with barbecue sauce and a natural food colouring. It comes with the usual accoutrements, plus the addition of cheese and more barbecue sauce on top of the beef patty.

The famous Chicken Fries have also been given the Halloween treatment when it comes to the packaging, though there’s nothing else unnatural about them (unless you count the general concept of chicken portions in the shape of french fries).

Finally, we got to wash it all down with BK’s new Pumpkin Spice Latte. Various coffee shops’ versions have put people on social media firmly into the ‘for’ or ‘against’ camp – will the newest addition to the pumpkin drinks canon have the same effect?

The new Halloween Menu is available at Burger King restaurants across the UK until October 31.
