We’ll admit our sandwich budget might be a little higher than most, but sometimes you just need to spoil yourself.
Hawksmoor have expanded to Manchester after the success of their steak restaurants in London, and there’s quite a bit of variation on the menu.
But one thing that’s made it to the North-West is the signature ox cheek French dip, a sandwich as decadent as they come.

Combining melt-in-the-mouth beef rib meat with melted Ogleshield cheese, the sandwich is served in a brioche roll which conjures up memories of the finger-sandwiches I often enjoyed at birthday parties as a child.
The sweetness of the bread is complemented with a small jug of gravy for dipping – show me someone who doesn’t think gravy improves any meat-and-cheese sandwich and I’ll show you a liar.
A range of textures can often improve a meal, but the Hawksmoor French dip demonstrates that not everything needs that extra crunch. Soon you’ll be dipping everything in gravy.
£12 from Hawksmoor Manchester, Guildhall, Seven Dials or Spitalfields Bar
