James Rynerson was released from jail after a case of mistaken identity. His wife drove him back 2 hours later
I wonder how he spent his 120 minutes of freedom? He could have watched almost all of Apocalypse Now. He would have missed the last 27 minutes, sure, but he would have got the gist of it all, and would have at least seen a little bit of Marlon Brando.
Let’s face it, they probably went straight up to the bedroom before the ultimate act of betrayal occurred, during which Mrs Rynerson discovered that he hadn’t actually meant to have been released from Mesa County Jail in Colorado, threw him into the backseat of the car, and drove him straight back.
According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel, Rynerson, 38, was mistakenly released instead of his former cellmate Marvin March. When the time came for March to be set free, as he was due for release, he had already been moved to another cell.
Amazingly, the guards were completely unaware he had been moved and set free Rynerson instead without even checking whether it was in fact the correct inmate.
They realised soon after when March approached one of the wardens and asked when he was going to be released.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Henry Stoffel has admitted that his staff did not follow correct procedure, failing to even check Rynerson’s wristband and photograph.
Stoffel did however praise Mrs Rynerson for doing the right thing and thanked her for returning her husband, who was being held on charges of menacing, disorderly conduct and trespassing.
Additionally he now faces charges of attempt to escape, forgery and criminal impersonation.
Still, Apocalypse Now is a classic and 120 minutes of it is better than nothing I guess.
