Thomas Markle both pleads with and threatens his daughter
Meghan Markle’s father, who has been estranged for some time now, has come forward with criticism of Oprah. Yes, that, Oprah!
He has accused the talk-show host of taking advantage of a “weakened” Harry in the hopes of building her network.
Harry and Meghan are constantly in the news, maybe a little too much considered they are no longer part of the monarchy.
Nonetheless, their interview with Oprah made headlines across the globe, more so than that infamous picture of Kim Kardashian for Paper magazine.
During an interview on Australia’s Sixty-Minutes, the new grandfather was insistent on what he sees as Oprah’s manipulative behaviour, going as far as to say she could sue him.
“I have things to say. Oprah Winfrey, for one, I think is playing Harry and Meghan,” he claimed.
“I think she is using them to build her network and build her new shows and I think she’s taken advantage of a very weakened man and has got him to say things that you just shouldn’t be saying on television.
“She will disagree of course, and she may even sue me, I don’t care. But the bottom line is she is working Harry.”
Markle also said he was “disappointed” to hear of his grandchild’s name through a public statement, although he has been estranged since before their wedding.
“I’m not an axe murder. I made one dumb mistake and I’ve been punished for it. This show they’ve been on, they talk about compassion, there’s no compassion for me, no compassion for my family, and no compassion for the world.”
Thomas Markle is clearly repentant of his past mistakes, but whether his estranged daughter accepts him back is another conversation entirely.
But what is more apparent is that there is so much happening behind the scenes. We only see a small portion of these peoples’ lives, which makes it an impossibility to gauge every emotion, reaction, and thought.
“On the 18th I will be 77 years old. Most of the Markle men don’t make it past 80 so there’s a good chance I may never see my grandchildren.”
