We’re signing up. This is fantastic.
In recent years, New Zealand has provided us with some absolutely surreal and hilarious brilliant comedy films and TV shows – check out Flight of the Conchords, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Back of the Y, Black Sheep and Boy for proof of this – so we’re not exactly surprised to see that this sense of humour extends into their police force.
The country has launched a new recruitment drive that showcases their diversity in a video they’ve called the “World’s Most Entertaining Police Recruitment Video”.
Surprise, surprise, it has now gone viral.
The action-packed campaign, which runs for two-and-a-half minutes, is like a spiritual sequel to Hot Fuzz as we see a number of police officers go to ridiculous lengths to make New Zealand “the safest country in the world”.
What does this involve? Well, in a fine display of Kiwi humour, we get to see a solo dance at a pedestrian crossing, a cat wearing a police vest, a cameo from the New Zealand Police Pipe Band and some acrobatic front-flips that even Nicholas Angel would be proud of.
Does anyone else want to see this video turned into a feature-length comedy?
Take a look.
