Norwegian government are asking students to stop having sex on roundabouts

Norwegians have a month-long celebration to mark the end of their studies called “Russ"

Students for you, eh?

In what appears to be a rather odd celebration, it appears that our Norwegian friends have a fairly raunchy and risky tradition after graduating from secondary school.

Rather than just have one big blow out, Norwegians have a month-long celebration to mark the end of their studies called “Russ” and it usually takes place from April 20th and ends on May 17th – Norway’s national day.

What does this involve?

Basically, they have a good time and let their hair down but some students have taken this to the extreme.

Norway’s Public Roads Administration have just launched a “No to sex on roundabouts” campaign and it’s exactly what you would think.

Terje Moe Gustavsen, former minister of transport who now runs the Public Roads Administration, wants to nip this behaviour in the bud and stop students from having sex on roundabouts because it may be “too much of a surprise” for drivers.

Gustavsen said in a statement: “Everyone understands that being in and around roundabouts is a traffic hazard. It may not be so dangerous for someone to be without clothes on the bridge, but drivers can get too much of a surprise and completely forget they are driving.”

As stated by Reuters, there’s a logical reason to this campaign because “dozens of accidents involving students’ red- or blue-painted vans and buses are reported every year, and sometimes the celebrations lead to crashes killing those aged just 18 or 19.”

Of course, we’re firm advocates of safe driving and obeying the rules of the road but those traffic jams on Norwegian roundabouts must be interesting.

Maybe this is an insight as to why Norway was recently voted the happiest country in the world? Mmm.
