People setting off fireworks between wrong times tonight face £5,000 fine

Bonfire night could end in a fine if you aren’t careful

November 5 each year marks the anniversary of the Gun Powder Plot, and naturally, we Brit’s celebrate the occasion by shooting off colourful sky bombs, waving setting sparkly sticks in the air, and creating enormous fires for everyone to gather around- we’re a strange bunch really.

But should a firework reach the skyline at the wrong time, you could be slapped with a hefty £5,000 fine or even prison.

Though consumer fireworks are legal in the UK, there are specific times you can set them off. Tonight, that being November 5, you can spark your fireworks up to midnight. But over the weekend, where arguably the most celebrations will take place, events will have to stick to the usually designated time frames.

From tomorrow, you cannot release pyrotechnics after 11 pm, or you might be slapped with a fine.

People caught setting off fireworks at the wrong time risk a £90 fine on the spot, while people selling or using fireworks illegally can be hit with a £5,000 fine and up to six months in prison.

Fireworks are traditionally ranked into four categories, those being F1, F2, F3, and, you guessed it, F4.

While F1 fireworks are things like party poppers and sparklers, F2 and F3 are for open spaces online.

The general public should be staying away from F4 displays as they are for specialist use only, which all fathers would argue they are anyway.

If you are out at the weekend to enjoy celebrations then make sure you remember fire safety training from Primary school. I believe it was something like stop, drop, and twerk?
