Scottish policeman belts out ‘I Will Survive’ after sorting out pub brawl – and Gloria Gaynor loves it

Forget the Singing Detective, how’s about the Karaoke Cop?

In a scenario that is so incredibly Scottish that you almost expect Billy Connolly to suddenly appear from nowhere, an altercation in a Glasgow drinking hole quickly turned into the good old-fashioned sing-song.

Police were called out to Waterloo Bar in central Glasgow to deal with a disturbance, and were quick to apprehend the individual accused of instigating the alleged assault. A 23-year-old man was arrested.

But it was following the arrest, and after ensuring the victim was fine, that the real action took place. By way of diffusing the atmosphere, one of the coppers decided to treat the locals to his rather questionable singing voice.

Sergeant Jon Harris took to the karaoke mic to belt out ‘I Will Survive’ by Gloria Gaynor, to the whoops and cheers from the assembled revellers. Local man Peter McKenna-Boyd broadcast the performance on Facebook Live…

Understandably, the impromptu rendition of the disco classic went down a storm, both in the bar and subsequently online, and quite brilliantly, Gloria Gaynor herself got wind of the performance and loved it…

We look forward to more policemen around the country following up arrests with karaoke renditions…although perhaps ‘Disco Inferno’ should be avoided for any arson investigations.
