Snapchat’s latest innovation is giving us a bit of a Big Brother vibe.
The app has expanded hugely since its advent, now including chat and call functions, as well as a range of filters that have made it more popular among smartphone users worldwide.
Now the tech firm is making its first foray in to the world of gadgets, and we’re not sure we like what they’re planning.
Snapchat will be releasing hi-tech sunglasses that they’re calling Spectacles, which will come with a built-in camera capable of recording up to 30 seconds of video at a time.
Fortunately for us all, it will be easy to tell when we’re being recorded thanks to a light on the front of the device which will illuminate when the glasses are filming.
Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel has spoken of the appeal of the device.
“It was our first vacation, and we went to [Californian state park] Big Sur for a day or two. We were walking through the woods, stepping over logs, looking up at the beautiful trees.
“And when I got the footage back and watched it, I could see my own memory, through my own eyes – it was unbelievable.
“It’s one thing to see images of an experience you had, but it’s another thing to have an experience of the experience. It was the closest I’d ever come to feeling like I was there again.”
The glasses will go on sale later this year for around $130.
