Police in the US tend to get their fair share of bad press – and often it’s not without good reason.
But we take our hats off to this cop in Duluth, Minnesota, who did what he needed to do to stop a man from jumping to his death.
The officer in question was clearly trained in how to deal with someone at such a low point in their life that they were willing to end it all.
Gaining the individual’s trust with calm dialogue, he used a novel method to save the poor chap from jumping from his rooftop perch. And all it took was quick thinking and a cigarette.
