The internet has had its say on Britain’s worst town

Tom Victor

It’s not scientific by any means, but the people of Reddit have had their say on the worst town in the UK.

In the past, Hull has frequently found its place atop lists of ‘crap’ towns and cities, but the tide is turning and the future City of Culture has been earmarked as one of the best places to visit in 2016.

So, which town is the country’s worst? As it turns out, Luton takes that dubious honour.

Among the damning Reddit comments are the following:

  • “Horrible town. Horrible inhabitants. Thank god there’s 3 motorway junctions, 2 railway stations and an airport that can be used for a swift exit.”
  • “Lesson of the thread. Avoid Luton. I have flown from there and even that was depressing.”
  • “Whenever I hear southerners talk about how bad the North is I just think ‘Man, have you ever been to Luton?'”
  • “Fucking Luton. It’s the town at the end of humanity.”
  • “In these days of squabbles over politics and religion, maybe our mutual hatred of Luton is something that the whole country can get behind.”
