If you’ve ever talked with the parents of a newborn baby then they’ll probably tell you that one of the most difficult things to do is settling on a name that fits, apart from the whole sleep deprivation and kids driving you crazy thing that follows after.
Deciding on an appropriate name is a democratic process. Some ladies will propose to use the name of their grandmother; some men think it’s entirely fine to name their first-born son after their favourite football player.
Like all healthy relationships, there’s a delicate compromise to be reached but Mike Bloomfield, a lifelong Millwall fan who was born in the Bermondsey area of London, had some serious grovelling to do after he decided to change the name of his newborn son at the registry office – without informing his wife, Kelly.
Speaking with The Mirror, he explains the reason for naming his child ‘Bermondsey Millwall Den Bloomfield’:
“I just love Millwall and this is a good way to get the next generation involved. I threatened to do it but I don’t think my wife believed me! I’m not sure how she’s going to react.”
Mike could also be the most persuasive man in the world though because he has somehow managed to convince his wife that the name is entirely fitting.
She says “he was a bit frightened to come home! I’m coming around to it though and I quite like it. It’s growing on me”.
I can only imagine that this ‘change’ of heart came after some intense begging, pleading and maybe a few nights in the doghouse.
To this we say, totally worth it!
