It could cost £1,000 a night, and we would all still do it.
Rummaging through the attic or cupboard for your fan has become a staple of British culture ever since our summers started to resemble the planet Mercury. But despite experts saying that fans can be dangerous for our health, we all continue to sit in front of them, gasping for air or singing into the blades to sound like Cher. Yes, that rhyme was intentional.
Energy switching service Migrate has said that more than half of the UK uses a fan at night to stay cool, and I can confirm that the other portion of people are psychopaths. What’s next? Do they sleep under the duvet?
They suggest that collectively, this costs £1.7million a night. However, when you break this down, only 7p per household keeps a single fan running for eight hours. So what I am gathering from this is that if every household gives 7p every eight hours, we could have millions to address climate change. Did I just solve global warming?
To beat the heat I used my drone as an extra fan for 20 minutes and it was wonderful… pic.twitter.com/YIFC7xqJ0L

Sleeping experts Sleep Advisor has been kind enough to share their way of creating AC in your very home:
- Get a few bottles of water, about four to six.
- Add two to three tablespoons of salt to each bottle.
- Put the bottles in the freezer.
- When you’re ready for bed, put the frozen bottles on a tray. The tray is there to collect condensation and prevent a watery, leaky mess.
- Put the tray of frozen bottles in front of your fan.
- Turn it on. As the air blows by the frozen water, you’ll feel a cool breeze.
