At over €1000, donkey cheese is the most expensive in the world.
According to TheTaste.ie, a farmer near Belgrade has cornered the market in how to make cheese from the milk of a donkey and his product is being eaten by the rich and the famous the world over.
Slobodan Simic has perfected the process of making the cheese, which is only currently made in Serbia.
Donkey milk is known to be very low in fat and high in Vitamin C, and is being used in beauty products and as a nutritional supplement by those that can afford it.
The animals, you see, do not produce anywhere near as much milk as cows, sheep or goats, and therefore the process of making the cheese in painstaking.
Apparently, though, it’s worth it for its ‘earthy, nutty taste and crumbly texture.’ Tennis player Novak Djokovic is believed to have already bought up the entire supply of donkey cheese, or pule as it’s known in Serbia, in his home country.
At £880 a kilo, we’re prepared to leave him to it. Just think of the number of Babybels you could get for that amount of money.
