“It’s not ‘little’, it’s ‘lit-el’…”
Damn, this guy is good.
While English is supposedly one of the easiest languages for foreign people to learn, British dialect – or more specifically ~certain~ British dialects – can be much harder to grasp.
In this short, delightfully instructional video, popular YouTuber KoreanBilly talks us through the challenges of the Liverpudlian and Londoner accents.
As Billy accurately observes:
“If we actually go to London or watch British dramas, their accents sound very different from one of Standard British English.”
Truth is he puts most of the Americans who try to speak ‘British English’ to shame. He explains why too – Americans can’t do proper ‘glottal stops’.
Not all Brits can do flawless Yankee accents either though. Don’t believe me? Just check out Benedict Cumberbatch’s cumbersome ‘Murican accent in Marvel’s new ‘Dr Strange’ trailer. Yikes…
