Stress the bane of modern life.
It probably always has been, to be fair, but people are far more open about talking about it these days. And with that, we get all manner of suggestions for how to manage the condition.
For managing stress – rather than eliminating it – is probably the only realistic option open to any of us.
Kudos then to California student Alina Ramirez, who shared this list of 101 ways to handle stress on Twitter. The list, given to her by her psychology teacher Brett Phillips, has since gone mega-viral, having been retweeted almost 24k times.

Here’s a better look at the list’s suggestions:
Teacher Brett Phillips, explained to BuzzFeed his motivation behind the list: “I give students the list and then I have them pick five things that they need to start doing to lower their stress levels.
“I do a lot of the things on the list to enjoy life more myself. Life’s short — too much stress will make it even shorter!”
As BuzzFeed explains, the list is a mix of specific and ideological “tips.”
For example, number 39 is “Have goals for yourself,” while number 54 is “Find support from others,” number 56 is “Do it today,” and number 83 is “Play patty-cake with a toddler.”
Phillips concludes the list with number 101: “Freely praise other people.”
This is the 10th year Brett Phillips has handed students his list.
Apparently, the magical 101 ways to combat stress have come from years of research, looking at “various textbooks, articles, and just thinking of things that most people could do to live a less stressful life,” he said.
Brett says his list isn’t the be all and end all for beating stress, nor does he take credit for writing it.
Instead, he calls it a “project”, allowing us all to cut down on mental strain.
Numbers 49, 79, 98 and 101 are our personal favourites.
Thanks Brett. We needed that today.
