We’re curious creatures, human beings.
We have the entire world at our disposal, fantastic inventions and technological marvels, the mental capacity to love and understand what it means to love, and the history of human literature and storytelling at our fingertips.
We have mastered the skies and seas, we discovered fire, crafted the wheel and brought about the ages of enlightenment, positing the big questions and coming back with answers.
And yet, the most amazing thing I’ve seen all week is this video of people throwing a hat into the air.

I’m underselling the video slightly. This is in fact a high-stakes mission to return the hat – dropped by a Houston Astros fan following the team’s surprise victory in the World Series over the LA Dodgers – to its rightful owner.
In what appears to be a multi-storey car park (or parking lot as they say over the pond), fans had lined up to see the Astros victory parade, when the unthinkable happened: a hat was dropped.
What happened next was what human beings do best: help each other out, while screaming and cheering every time they get closer to success. We’re not always great, but sometimes human beings are spectacular.
